Ernestine Hawkins
October 30, 1950 to March 31, 2011

Ernestine Lucille Taylor Hawkins A.K.A "Ernie", "Stine", or "Hawk" was born in Alabama on October 30, 1950 to Odessa Groce and John Taylor. She attended grade school in Baltimore and later moved the Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated from Glenville High School. She attended Miami University (Ohio) and Case Western Reserve University receiving her Masters in Library Science. Ernestine met Willie "Duff" Hawkins after courtship they were married on July 27, 1974. They were blessed with one beautiful daughter Amanda Odessa Hawkins.

Ernestine had many accomplishments including Black Caucus American Library Association, co- authoring the book "Stop Talking, Start Doing- Attracting people of color to Library Profession" , served on the literary Award Committee, Board of Trustees Black caucus, and was a founding Cleveland African American Library Association. She succumbed to her illness and was called home to be with Lord on March 31, 2011. She is preceded in death by her mother Odessa Taylor, her grandmother Ruby Groce, her brother Dennis Taylor and her father John Taylor. Ernestine Hawkins leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Amanda, grandsons Jaylen and Jordan, her brother Craig Taylor, sisters Deidre and Tamika Taylor, and a host of relatives and friends.
