Betty J. McGhee crossed the river on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on February 26, 1937 to the late Dallas and Verdell Jones in Sylacauga, AL. Betty attended Sylacauga public school system. She was baptized at an early age and later moved to Akron, OH in 1957.
Betty was employed by the Holiday Inn as a baker and food preparation. She was later employed at Akron City Hospital. After twenty-seven years of service, she retired in 2005. She later met the love of her life, Warren S. McGhee in which they had forty-eight years of marriage and raised three wonderful children.
During the late 1950’s, she became a member of Antioch Baptist Church and later moved her membership to New Hope Baptist Church in 1980. She was a faithful member of the Mother’s Ministry and a greeter for many years. She loved her church and most of all praising the Lord.
Betty loved gardening, planting flowers ad especially cooking. Her pride and joy was her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Warren S. McGhee; brother, Kenny Jones; sisters, Colleen and Deborah Jones, four brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law and a host of other family members.
Betty leaves to cherish her memories, sons, Stanley Jones, Warren Jr. (Valerie) McGhee and loving daughter Wanda (Corey) Roberts; brothers, Reverend Robert (Evelyn) Jackson Sr. and Dallas Jones Jr; sisters, Ann (Jeff) Person, Sondra Patricia Pitts and Willa Jean Roberts; grandchildren, Janeene (Royce) Jones-Smith, Lucille (Gary) Jones-Hamilton, Brian Jones and Ashley Jones; great grandchildren, Malachi, Emmanuel, Anthony, Amir and a host of in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
