Affectionately known to some as “Jean” passed away Monday August 13, 2018, after a long battle with renal failure. She was surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born January 25, 1950, to the late Bennie and Lucy Sheffield in Cuba, Alabama. In 1978, she relocated to Ohio, where she became a lifetime resident.
Erma accepted Christ at an early age at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Yantley, Alabama. She was a member at Second Baptist Church. She was an employee with Morgan Adhesive for 2 years, from where she retired. In her spare time, Erma loved playing bingo, taking bus trips, cooking and shopping.
Preceded in death by grandparents Bennie and Mammie Brown; parents Bennie and Lucy Sheffield; brother, Bennie Sheffield Jr.; sister, Mary K. Brooks; great-grandson, Dernard Walton Jr.; and nephew Vackers Marsh Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory, loving daughters Melba Moore and Keysha (Troy) Hancock; sons Sherman (Ren’ee) and Joseph Sheffield, all of Akron, Ohio; special grandchildren, Kamesha and Sashe’ Moore; grandchildren Joseph, Bryna, Derell, Asha, Tiyah, Zion, Jontel, Jobria,and Amberzae’ Sheffield; great-grandchildren Anthony, Derell, Dallas, Levi, and Chase.
She is survived by her siblings, Dancy (JoAnn) Sheffield of Ward Alabama, Charles Sheffield of Columbus, OH, Lester (Charlie Carol) Sheffield of Chicago Illinois, and, sister Brenda (Ronnie) Mahone; special nieces Shenequa Sheffield, Towanda (Allan) Thomas, Aneese Sheffield, Cassandra (Ray) Perez, Dominque Nolen, and LaTonya (Travis) West. Special nephews Shon Marsh, Glen, Antoine Sheffield and Ronnie Woodward; uncles Edgar and Matthew (Francis) Brown; and aunt Eula Denison of Youngstown OH.
Special friends Cree Portis, Geraldine Richardson, Elmore Dowdell, Bobbie Council, and Mary Singletary. Additionally, she leaves to mourn her passing, a host of friends and relatives. The family would like to send a special thank you to Summa Hospice Care, Doctor Steven Oyakawa, Chrissy King-Finley, Pastor Roderick C. Pounds Sr. and The Second Baptist Church.
