Alma T. Lee was born December 24, 1947, in Washington, DC to parents Daisy Decatur Adams and Harry Lee. She was called home by her Lord, and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday, December 2, 2018, after a short stay in the hospital.
Alma and her mother returned to the Akron area where she attended both parochial and public schools, graduating from North High School. She continued her education at the University of Akron where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education, as well as a master’s degree in Counseling. While attending the University of Akron she became a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Delta Pi Chapter.
Alma served as an English teacher, and later as a Guidance Counselor for the Twinsburg City School System. She retired after 30 years of service, with the love, respect, and admiration of her students, community and her colleagues.
Over the years, Alma has given generously of herself through volunteerism. She volunteered for the Akron Summit Tutorial Program, was a member of Junior NAACP, the Akron Recreational Department as a leader and manager of the summer lunch program and the Upward Bound Program at Western Reserve Academy. In her later years Alma reviewed child referral cases for the Children Services Board; read proposals for United Way; worked the concession stands at the Bridgestone Invitational World Golf Championships for the benefit of Edwin Shaw Hospital; assisted students in college preparation and entertaining children of all ages as an elf on the Polar Express Train.
As a member of Centenary UMC, Alma has served as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible school leader; President of the Staff Pastor Relations Committee; President/Secretary of the United Methodist Women/Women of Centenary. Alma was one of the founders of the church’s Summer Drama Camp and Dinner and Jazz ministry where she frequently performed as a comedian. Alma’s participation in the “Above All the Right Hat” style show was wide and varied as she brought the same degree of effort and dedication, she brought to all her endeavors.
Alma was preceded in death by her parent’s Daisy (Dumas) Adams, and father, Harry Lee. She leaves to mourn her passing special friend and sister Valerie Peavy, Godsons and nephews Ben Peavy, Paul (Trish) Peavy; aunt Cheylon Thomas, uncle Richard Decatur, Sr., stepbrother Michael (Gayle) Adams, stepsister Debbie (Kevin) Jones; and a host of relatives and friends.
