Betty Jean Gordon, 79, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 1, 2019. Betty was born June 26, 1939, in Luverne, Alabama and moved to Akron, Ohio, as a child. She’s a 1957 graduate of South High School (Akron). She was a surgical assistant at Barberton Citizens Hospital for 37 years, and she also served as the hospital’s local union president. She also was a foster parent for Summit County Children’s Services. She held membership in the Northern Disciples Leadership Conference and the NAACP. She also was a member of The House of The Lord. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, shopping with her daughters and taking care of her cat, Fluffer, who lived to be 23 years old.
She leaves her husband of 60 years, Rev. Isaac Samuel Gordon; daughters, April (Mark) Jefferson and Misty (Eric) Wheeler; son, Isaac Joseph Gordon; grandson, Miles Wheeler, brothers, Clinton Hill, Charles Murray, Charles Short and Andrew Wilson; sisters, Helen Lewis and Jean Davis; sister-in-law Gloria Gordon; and many loving nieces, and nephews, cousins and friends.
