Elvira Elizabeth Dove nee Hord, age 94, of Akron, Ohio, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019 after a long illness.
She was born on April 14, 1924 in Akron to the late Thomas Henry Hord and Georgianna Hord nee Jackson.
She was a life-long member of Wesley Temple A.M.E. Zion Church and was deeply involved in church activities, from singing in the choir as a teenager to serving in the Young Adult Missionary Society (“Ys”) and The Silver Leaf Club. She was an expert seamstress and milliner and a devoted wife and mother. Before her illness, she enjoyed gardening and traveling with her husband.
Elvira is survived by her beloved husband of 72 years, Ray Allen Dove; one son, Ray T. Dove, and three daughters, Rita Dove and husband Fred Viebahn; Robin Waynesboro and husband Nelson; and Rhonda Harrison and husband Chris. Her memory will also be cherished by her grandchildren, Aviva Dove-Viebahn, Nelson Waynesboro III, Neva Waynesboro, and Daylen Harrison, as well as great-granddaughter, Saoirse Dove Viebahn-Miller.
