Services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Stewart and Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St., Akron, OH 44307. Interment will be on Monday, February 11, 2019 at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends and loved ones from 12:00 noon until 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
Elvira Elizabeth Dove nee Hord, age 94, of Akron, Ohio, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019 after a long illness.
She was born on April 14, 1924 in Akron to the late Thomas Henry Hord and Georgianna Hord nee Jackson.
She was a life-long member of Wesley Temple A.M.E. Zion Church and was deeply involved in church activities, from singing in the choir as a teenager to serving in the Young Adult Missionary Society (“Ys”) and The Silver Leaf Club. She was an expert seamstress and milliner and a devoted wife and mother. Before her illness, she enjoyed gardening and traveling with her husband.
Elvira is survived by her beloved husband of 72 years, Ray Allen Dove; one son, Ray T. Dove, and three daughters, Rita Dove and husband Fred Viebahn; Robin Waynesboro and husband Nelson; and Rhonda Harrison and husband Chris. Her memory will also be cherished by her grandchildren, Aviva Dove-Viebahn, Nelson Waynesboro III, Neva Waynesboro, and Daylen Harrison, as well as great-granddaughter, Saoirse Dove Viebahn-Miller.
