Frances Stone, loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 5, 2018,
Frances Pearl Stephens was born July 11, 1923 in Athens, Alabama to Pearl Nance Stephens and Stokes Stephens. Mother Pearl Nance Stephens, died shortly after Frances’ birth. Frances was the youngest of five siblings, Ella, Stokes Jr, Robert and George, who have all preceded her in death. Father, Stokes Stephens, died in 1979 at the age of 97. Frances was happy to be his primary caregiver for many years.
Frances had many maternal figures in her life; sister, Ella and cousin, Ruby Nance Crooks. She graduated from Athens High School. Frances married Willie Stone in 1941. To this union two beautiful children were born, W. James (Jim) Stone and Alesia M. Stone, who passed away on July 10, 2018. Despite never knowing her mother, Frances was richly blessed with a loving family to give her the foundation to be the mother she did not have.
Frances earned her LPN degree from Akron City Hospital and led a full career in nursing, working in various caregiving settings including the hospital and home care. Frances served as a private duty nurse for many years. She was cherished for the attentive and loving care she provided to her long- time clients in the Akron community.
As a young woman, Frances became active with her church. She chaired many committees at Bethel Baptist Church. At Prince of Peace, she was active with the choir, Missionary Society and hospitality committees. Charitable work was important and she shared her time, talents and treasures with all that she met. She was active within the Akron community with service and social clubs. This involvement included The American Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Association, GASP, Idle Hour Club, Alabama Club and multiple nursing associations. Frances was an active member of the Mary Chapter #47 OES, PHA, Golgatha Guild #4 Heroines of Templar Crusades and was Past Commandress of Al Kaf Court #144 (1998). Through her tenure with each organization, Frances established numerous life-long friendships. Her caring nature and exuberant personality was appreciated by all.
On Sunday, August 5, 2018 Frances Stone transcended from her earthly body to be with her Heavenly Father. She leaves to cherish her memories, her son Jim (Jana); grandchildren, Deidre (Larry), Tiffany (Terrance), Maria, Jordan; great grandchildren, Joshua, Alexandria, Katya, Lauren, Lindsey, Jayerra, Gavin, Amir; great-great grandchildren, Aaron and Kehlani; special nephew, Ronnie Stephens (Peggy) as well as many other cherished nieces, nephews, adopted children and friends.
