CPL Herbert Stevenson Austin

CPL Herbert S. Austin, age 88, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019.

He was the son of the late Randall and Ella Mae Austin. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Austin and George Austin; two sisters, Dorothy Austin and Julia Austin; grandchild, Estaben Parra; son-in-law, Roger Boykin. Herbert was an honorary Mason. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and received five bronze stars, Merit Unit Citation and United Nations Service Medal. After his Army discharge, he married Evelyn T. Austin, wife of 58 years. From their union, they had five children, Jeffery S. Austin, Tony Austin, Beverly Austin Boykin, Jada Austin Parra and Chantea Austin Jones; grandchildren, Mida Parra, Telstar and Jaylyne Tatum, Michael M. Jones, Naydia L. Jones, Mustafaa S. Austin, Raja Boykin, Rashanna Boykin; great-grandchildren, Amenna Parra, Estaben Parra, Jr. and Savannah Parra; sister-in-law, Phyllis White Austin; son-in-law, Michael L. Jones.

Herbert retired from R.T.A. and attended the African Episcopal Church. He contributed generously to the community. Her loved watching baseball, football and was a devoted husband and father.
