Hilda Eugine Gordon was born December 29, 1916, in British Guyana to her loving parents James Evans and Mary Simon. Hilda attended collegiate high school, Georgetown, Guyana, and was one of the first of her generation to graduate High School. Upon finishing high school, she married Leonard Gordon who preceded her in death soon after marriage but not before the birth of her first son Malcolm. Hilda was blessed with two other children, her daughter Lorraine, and her son Evan. While raising them, she worked as a Quality Supervisor for Kent Shirt Factory located in Plaisance, East Coast Demerara.  She instilled a fierce work ethic and a sense of dedication by rising early and preparing meals before catching the first train to work. She emigrated to the United States of America to join her children in 1978 and was followed by her youngest Evan in 1979. Hilda was an active member of her Church St. Augustine in Guyana participating in several committees. Upon her migration to the USA, she joined St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Akron, Ohio where she remained a member until her death. In 1980, her daughter Lorraine left New Jersey for Ohio and the two of them lived together for 40 years. Lorraine was her mother’s primary caretaker after her retirement in 2014. Hilda Gordon died peacefully in her sleep at home on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at the age of 103.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James Evans, and Mary Simon; brother, Jerome Evans; sister, Eileen Evans; special cousins, Sybil Harry and Hilda Hunte; nephew, Joseph Blackman; and son Evan Gordon.

Hilda will be fondly remembered by her Son Malcolm Gordon Sr, (Lorna); daughter, Lorraine Blackman; daughter-in-law, Maria Willis Gordon; grandchildren, Paul Gordon, Sr., Charmain Gordon, Sharika Gordon (Emerson), Malcolm Gordon, Jr. and Willis Gordon; great-grandchildren, Dominique, Paul, Jr., Dominik, Emmanuel, Brieanna, Sevon, Kiara, Matthew, Eian; 8 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, Gem (Malcolm) Tanner and Celina Morris of the United Kingdom and a host of other family and friends all of whom will miss her dearly.
