Written by Advanced Senior Mother Keren Happuch-Prewitt:
I was born on January 29, 1933 in Youngstown, Ohio to Presiding Elder Steven and Eldress Pearl Mabel Haines in the home of Brother Jesse and Sister Virginia Hall.
I remember an awful lot about my childhood days. We moved about quite a bit during my life’s journey. Some places we lived in Ohio were Youngstown, Sharon-Line, Kent, Akron, Warren, Bethlehem Township and Cleveland. I also lived in Lexington, Kentucky and Princess Anne, Maryland. While living in Youngstown as a child, I vividly recall being able to walk across the fields to get to the church on Clingan Avenue.
One of the activities that I loved to participate in at church was our Sunday school classes. Another was that on Sacrament Day; we would have a five-minute Terry meeting and the Saints would be high in the spirit. The Deacons would visit the Saints and give them communion if they were ill or unable to come to service for communion.
I was married to the late Presiding Elder Henry Prewitt for thirty-two years. Knowing that with God all things are possible, we were blessed to have a daughter, St. Bathsheba Israel Prewitt-Brook. St. Bathsheba was named by Father W. Israel, J. I. S. Yes, I have been through some dark days but through God’s power and our leaders, they safely brought me through.
I took up cosmetology and Father W. Israel, J. I. S. gave me funds to start the first beauty salon in Bethlehem Township, Ohio in 1958. I graduated from Bible School in 1989, attended college and graduated with two degrees; an Associate of Arts Degree in 1995 and an Associate of Science in Medicine in 1997. I was blessed to have served as Bible School Supervisor, Bible School Teacher, Sunday School Teacher, and Church Secretary.
It has been a blessing and I enjoyed playing the piano and have met up with so many musicians throughout the coast of Israel. The Lord gave me many songs like; “I Fear Only The Lord”, “Purge Me Lord”, ”I Am Saved By His Grace”, and “Only The Blessed” were revealed to me at the nursing home while staying there.
In the early 70’s, under the reign of Father W. B. Israel, S.O.T., the 100 Voice National Choir was formed, and I was the Assistant Music Director to Superior Mother E. Magdalene Scott. I enjoyed the choir and looked forward to each choir rehearsal and to the comradery with the members of the choir.
