Heaven couldn’t wait for you. Your light was too bright.
Maurice MarQuest Hammonds, 28, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, February 10, 2019, at 11:23 p.m. His unexpected passing was due to his hard-fought battle to overcome sepsis caused by an infection in his body.
Maurice, also known as a host of nicknames, Moe, Moe Money, Moe Millz, Reese, Stinky, Marlo, Sincere Messiah and “Mama’s Boy”, was born January 2, 1991, in Akron, Ohio and was a lifelong resident. He was an amazing father, caring son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and could often be found pranking any unsuspecting person he encountered. In his short life, Maurice played football, baseball, basketball and he was a fierce wrestler. Maurice pressed forward, recently obtaining his high school GED in 2017, and enrolling in business courses at the University of Akron.
Maurice was loved. A renowned character in the Southwest Akron community, he had a vibrant spirit, always wearing a smile and was well regarded by his young sons, lifelong friends, family, and other loved ones. He was always one to have a clever comment, joke, prank, random outburst, caring word and was a purveyor of love, hope, happiness, laughs, and light. Maurice was a giver. There are countless stories of his kindness and of him going beyond the call to make sure others did not go without. Mostly, Maurice brought a smile to the faces of all who made his acquaintance.
Maurice was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Alfonzo “Al” Hammonds Sr., Anna Doris Hammonds; paternal grandparents, McNeal Thompson Sr., Laura Thompson, and uncles James Roger Hammonds, Robert Thompson, and Todd Thompson.
He is survived by his sons Maurice M. Hammonds Jr., Maur’Shon J. Hammonds, his father McNeal Thompson Jr., his mother Arminta Louise Hammonds, his twin sister MarNischa P. Hammonds, his sisters Tonika L. Hammonds, Monique C. Hammonds, Darice L. Thompson, Jaraesia Lott, his brothers Travalas T. Hammonds, McNeal (Selena) Thompson III, Jarell (Markesha) Thompson, Jordan M. Lott, and Michael D. Hammonds (nephew/brother). He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and family and friends.
To Maurice and Maur’Shon, we would like to share a message from your dad: “You don’t see me, but I am here. By your side forever I will always be, the gentle breeze in the air.”
