Mother Mary L. Allen at the blessed age of 89, received her wings on April 4, 2020, at Cleveland Clinic Akron General due to the virus COVID-19. Mother Allen was born on February 18, 1931, to the late Hezekiah and Fannie (Gilbert) Williams, in Cuthbert, GA.
She received her education through Randolph, County School System in Cuthbert, Georgia.
At an early age, she confessed her love for Jesus Christ and joined St. Paul AME Church, in Cuthbert, Georgia. Upon the death of her own mother, she and her two siblings were raised by their Maternal Grandparents Boyze and Mary Gilbert, in Cairo, Georgia. At the tender age of Nineteen, Mary relocated to the Akron, Ohio area to be near her father. After the death of her father, she found employment doing various domesticated work. Then later she started working at the Howard Johnson restaurant near the Ohio Turnpike. In 1954 she met the Love of her Life, Lenon Allen Sr. they were united in marriage in 1955. From that union five children were born,
1 son and four daughters. After his death, she met and married the late Robert Wilson Jr. Upon his death, Mother Mary decided to dedicate her time in helping to raise her grandchildren and other children too. This is how she became affectionately known as “Granny”.
Granny loved everyone that she met, and they loved her back. She would always look for the Good in people, even if she could see the Bad.
Granny enjoyed cooking, driving, fishing, gardening and spend time with her family.
Mother Allen was a faithful member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Mother’s Board, in different offices. She loved the Lord with all her heart and because of her love for HIM, that is where her strength came from. She will be Truly Missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Hezekiah and Fannie Williams;
Grandparents, the late Boyze and Mary Gilbert; husbands, Lenon Allen, Sr. and Robert Wilson Jr.; four siblings, Willie H. Williams Sr, Charles Rush, Clara L. Gordon, Sharon Williams; two grandchildren; Leonard R. Nelson, Patrick A.Wright; and one great-grandchild; T’Airicka Allen. She leaves to cherish her beloved memory, five children; son, Lenon “Ricky”Allen Jr.(Kevilyn), Middle River, MD; daughters, Carolyn Maxwell, Gloria Cox, Linda Ross (Jacob) all of Akron, OH, Patricia Nelson of St. Charles, MD; Brother, Gerald Williams of Oregon, WI;
Sister, Marilyn Williams, of Akron, OH Sisters-in-Love, Estella Williams, of Cairo, GA and Sandra Rush, of Pensacola, FL; 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
