Thomas Nelson Brewer was born February 3, 1935 in West Point, Mississippi to Willie Lee and Julia Adams Brewer. Thomas Nelson Brewer was born February 3, 1935 in West Point, Mississippi to Willie Lee and Julia Adams Brewer. Nelson also known as Bokke by family and friends, made his earthly transition on May 23, 2020. He was the 2nd boy and child of eight children. He accepted Christ as his savior. While growing up in West Point, he attended the Union Star Missionary Baptist Church.
Nelson received his early childhood education in Mississippi through the Melton Branch Grade School. As a young man growing up in Mississippi, he loved to hunt wild game and fish. He intently listened to older men to learn as much about life as possible.
His favorite food was collard greens. His pastime was watching Westerns, playing the Lottery and listening to the Blues. He was a regular attendee at his the UAW’s retiree union meeting. He prided himself on staying up to date on the contract changes.
While working at Coal and Kelly Construction Company in Mississippi, he had a severe tar accident which resulted in 3rd degree burns. He recovered and thus showed his resilience to overcome obstacles. He moved to Cleveland Ohio at the age of 17. After moving to Cleveland, he met and married Hattie Mallard and to this union was born three sons.
He worked for the City of Cleveland Sanitation Department for a short period of time. After 41 years of working for General Motors in Toledo and Cleveland, he retired in 2006.
Nelson loved cars, especially Cadillacs and at one point owned a 1939 Chevrolet.
Nelson was preceded in death, by his parents; sisters, Rosie Brewer Harris and Marie Brewer Jones; brother, Arthur James Brewer.
He leaves to cherish his memory; his sons- Nelson, Ricardo and Demetrus; sister-Patricia Brewer; brothers-LC, William (Jean), Cleotis (Consuello); five grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Special Friends-Doris Pickens and Nila Sanford.
