Warren Boyd Webb of Akron was called home on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Warren affectionately known as Bobby was born on January 8, 1932, in Tallassee, Alabama to the union of Ruth Smith Dumas and Hubert B. Webb, Sr.
Warren graduated and played basketball for Wall Street High School in East Tallassee. It was there he met the love of his life, Ina C. Bowen who played basketball for a rival High School. He was also an excellent first baseman for several baseball teams.
Warren served in Germany and received an honorable discharge for his service in the U.S. Army. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for 31 years retiring as a supervisor. Prior to and during his time with the postal service, Warren worked construction and belonged to Laborers’ International Union Local 894. He also served as a crossing guard for 21 years with Akron Public Schools.
He was a devoted member of Wesley Temple AME Zion Church where he served as a trustee, usher board member and was honored with the Man of the Year Award. Warren was a 32nd Degree Master Mason last belonging to Mt. Calvary Lodge No. 76 and Al Kaf Temple 109.
Warren had a zest for life and enjoyed it to the fullest! He was a bowler and belonged to several teams with his wife. He enjoyed horse racing, barbecuing, watching sports and CNN. He loved working on his computer, always keeping up with current events in his hometown of Tallassee and the world… always wanting to discuss what he read. Warren had a spirit for volunteering and he truly enjoyed delivering dinners for Mobile Meals. He was also known as the “Bid Whist King “and you had to be an exceptional player to be his partner at the table.
More than anything in the world, he loved his family and they loved him!
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Ina, and their five children Warren L. (Yuvonne) Webb, Akron; Dr. Tanya T. (Kenneth) Robinson, Copley; Deborah K. Webb-Sims, Akron; Jill P. (James) Adams, Copley; and Todd A. (Stephanie) Webb, Akron.
Warren was proud of and lovingly spoiled all of his eight grandchildren; Darren, Harry, Danielle, Adam, Tessa, Miles, Taylor, Malcolm, and great-granddaughter Geordan. A special thank you to Georgeann Terry-Webb.
He is survived by siblings, William (Verdelle) of Huntington Beach, CA; Mary Frances (Eugene) Inglewood, CA; Howard of Akron; Helen of Los Angeles, CA, Alfonzo (Annie) of Inglewood, CA and brother-in-law Manuel Bowen of Dayton, Ohio. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Lena Jones.
Warren Boyd Webb positively influenced many people with his love, faith, and words of wisdom!
