Tom A. Goosby, age 79 of Alliance, OH, passed away, June 25, 2018, at Akron General Hospital. He was born May 24, 1939, a son of Charles T. Goosby and Cora Latimore. Tom graduated from Alliance High School where during his senior year he was named NAIA All-American at guard and chosen top lineman in the Ohio conference. He received a full scholarship to Baldwin-Wallace College where he obtained his bachelor’s degree. At Baldwin-Wallace Tom earned four letters for the Yellow Jackets as an offensive guard and linebacker. The Cleveland Browns picked Tom in the 15th round of the 1962 NFL drafts. He played for the Browns as a linebacker in 1963 and for Washington Redskins in 1966. A knee injury led to Tom’s early retirement.
After retiring, Tom recruited for the NFL. He obtained his master’s degree from The University of Akron, where he finished out his career as the former Director of Recreational and Athletic Facilities. Throughout his life, he had a passion for history, golf, fishing and traveling abroad. He loved spending time with both his family as well as friends, and was forever on “the go” of his next adventure or falling asleep in his La-Z-Boy recliner. He was a loving, out-going, wise and an amusing man to many; who will be both missed and remembered greatly.
Tom is preceded in death by his step-father and mother Everett and Cora Taylor, his father Charles Goosby, brothers, Charles Goosby, Eric Taylor, and sisters Rolene Goosby and Kimberly Taylor.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Lovette (Oden) Goosby; children Victor Mitchell, Regina (Clarence) Good, Nina Blodgett and Karla Goosby, 2 sisters, 1 brother, 4 granddaughters, 4 grandsons, and 5 great-grandchildren.
