Victoria Jacqueline (Smith) Nixon was born on October 18, 1953 to the union of Dewey Jr. and Frances Smith in Cleveland, Ohio. As the 4th and middle child of 7, she had a knack for being the bridge of communication to family and friends alike. “Jackie”, as she was affectionately known, never met a stranger and showed genuine care for all those around her. She kept the foundation of her family strong and always connected.
Despite being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) at the age of 17, she used it as motivation to live a full life that even the doctors never expected. Jackie graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1972. She immediately entered the workforce with aspirations of building a career and ultimately becoming an airline stewardess, but these plans were interrupted due to complications from her disease. She retired from G & S Metal Products Company to focus on raising her daughters.
Jackie was charismatic and adored by all that knew her. She loved music, especially Motown classics, and was often the center of attention at family gatherings, cabarets and social affairs.
Jackie was loving, nurturing, and always willing to give of herself. She had a great sense of humor, was a natural orator, and could be considered a historian because she remembered everything. She also loved to serenade family and friends on their birthday with her own reindentation of the “Happy Birthday” song.
In 1995 Jackie married her childhood friend, Lazarous “Larry” Nixon, who cherished her for 22 years until his death on August, 6th 2017 where she remained by his side. She was most proud of her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandsons Jaylin & Jahmir.
Jackie departed this life on Saturday, April 21st 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Nixon; parents, Dewey Jr. and Frances Smith; sister, Linda Joanne Haynes; and brother, Dean Stuart Smith Sr.
Jackie is survived by her daughters, Lynnise Aseelah Smith and Shena Ann Smith; step-daughter, Tikeeya Nixon-Williams (Nigel Williams); grandchildren, Lakeia, Marlon, Jamonte, Shawntale, Adonis, T’Naija, Jaylin, Legin, Jahmir, and Nigel; great granddaughter, Shakyla; sister, Robin Denise Smith; brothers, Michael Smith (Angela), Dewey Smith, and MeChell Smith (Stephanie); Aunts, Helen Parker and Myrtis Stearnes (George); sister-in-law, Thelma Smith; brothers-in-law, Samuel Nixon and David Nixon, and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who love her and will miss her greatly.
