Bernice went home to be with the Lord, on Saturday, October 6, 2018.
Bernice Terry McGhee was born on October 5, 1950, in Columbus, Mississippi to the union of Carrie Pippkins and Julius Smith. Bernice was raised by her grandparents, John and Fannie Dancy.
She attended and graduated from R.E. Hunt High School in 1968. Bernice was baptized and confessed Christ at an early age at Northside Missionary Baptist Church under Reverend R. L. Greenlaw. In the early 1980’s, Bernice became a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Akron, OH where she became a faithful member. She loved honoring and serving the Lord by discussing and sharing His goodness and works with family and friend. After graduating high school, Bernice began working at Ohio Bell in 1969. She met and married J. C. McGhee on June 7, 1969. To this union, one child was born Brian Jason McGhee.
Bernice was a kind and gentle spirit and enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, taking leisure walks, spending time with friends, and having lunch with her Aunt Red every week at Rockne’s.
Bernice really loved her son Brian, special nephew Donald and loved loved her nephew Vaughn.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Carrie Pippkins and Julius Smith; sister Shirley Carey and half-sister Evelyn Connor.
Bernice is survived by her loving son Brian Jason McGhee; stepdaughter, Carmenina Ruiz-Drummond; step-granddaughters, Kameya Kelly and La’Ria Ruiz; brothers, Bobby Morgan and Marvin Guyton; sister Gloria (Willie Don) Davis; in-laws, Zack Mcghee; sisters-in-law, Louise Buchanan, Odessa Smoot, Mary-Jane Dates, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and special friends, Janet Ristity, Sandra Young and Marion Arnold.
