Robert S. Jackson Jr., “Bobby J.”, was a lifetime resident of Akron, Ohio. He left this earthly life on January 10, 2019 at the age of 57.
He was born on August 11, 1961 to Robert S. Jackson Sr. and Elnora Jackson and was the 6th child out of 10. Growing up, Bobby J. was self-motivated and did not let any obstacles stop him from achieving his goals. He started working at an early age, bought his first car at the age of 16, graduated from high school and worked his way through college. In spite of his busy schedule, he did not neglect his role as a mentor and a brother.
Bobby J. graduated from South High School in 1979. He attended Cuyahoga Community College, earning a degree in Computer Science in 1986 and Lorain Community College, where he earned his nursing degree in 1991. Bobby J. worked for the Ohio Lottery as a General Technician and he also worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in the Ambulatory Surgical Facility.
Bobby J. was very soft spoken and very family oriented. He enjoyed swimming, basketball, traveling, riding motorcycles, listening to music and dancing. He was a big fan of the Cleveland Browns and the group called “Morris Day and the Time”. He often said, “I’m about to walk a hole in my Stacey Adams”, as he smoothed one side of his hair back. Bobby J. lived 1000 years in the 57 calendar years we had with him because he valued life. He had fun, stayed in good spirits and accomplished so much at an early age; he was an absolute go-getter! He was charismatic and confident with himself. He stayed “dressed to the nines”, kept his hair “fresh” and was upbeat at all times. He probably never realized how he affected so many lives in a positive way. There were so many of us who looked up to him and followed his lead. His spirit was infectious and if you knew him, you could not help but to love him and want to be around him.
Bobby J. knew that his demise was near and did not disclose the severity of his well-being. He wanted us to remember him as being the same person as he was before. His passing was exemplified by the way that he lived, which was with dignity. We may not understand his decision at this time and think that it may have been selfish, but in hindsight, it took strength and courage for him to endure this alone. His siblings will always remember him as a leader, trendsetter, loving person, and an overall sauvé individual. His presence will truly be missed.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert S. Jackson Sr.; mother, Elnora Jackson; sister, Marcella; brother, Darnell; and his son, Ryan.
He leaves to cherish his memories, brothers, Stanford L. Harris, Tony, Royce (Katrina); sisters, Denise, Robin, Margaret and Traci; and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.
